Job Description
Primary Objectives:

• To foster the continued technical development of the company with particular reference to:

• Embracing new technologies

• Lowering detection levels

• Expanding the breadth of services provided

• Fine tuning current methods to ensure efficiency is maximized and waste is minimized.

• To mentor staff such that a desire to improve, learn and develop is commonplace.

• Corporate guidance of the QC group.

• On time completion of projects.

• Developing financial figures for Budgets

Specific Accountability & Key Performance Indicators:

• Successful Management of Projects – success measured by on-time completion

• The maintenance of ALS Arabia Minerals as the market leader in terms of technology, services offered and efficiency in areas targeted

• Accurate and timely written and oral communication with Clients (query response)

• A staff that is ‘growing’ in terms of technical knowledge.

• Demonstrate a capacity to mentor and train inexperienced staff.

• Demonstrate a high level of technical ability and in depth knowledge of processes and procedures.

• Manage to produce relevant procedures and training programs to ensure ALS Arabia staff have both the direction and skills required to complete required tasks accurately and with maximum efficiency.

The Technical Manager has the following duties:
• Researching and reporting on technology advancements relating to laboratory analysis, or related areas.

• Researching and reporting on analytical technologies that may be provide a competitive advantage for ALS Arabia Minerals business operations.

• Critically assessing new technology and advise senior management of the suitability or advantages of such technology.

• Managing the development of new methodology paying particular attention to productivity and service initiatives.

• Acting as a primary resource where technical input is required by management, staff or clients.

• Designing and implementing training programs for staff and management to ensure all staff member have the training and skills to successfully complete the tasks assigned to their positions with respect to:

• Safety

• Productivity and workflow issues;

• Instrumental analysis; and

• LIMS operation.

• Constantly looking at possible ways to increase productivity and efficiency through equipment upgrading or new technology.

• Advising on the recommended purchase of capital equipment and prepare CEP’s as required.

• Assisting with the marketing of the company’s services through technical presentations and the preparation of literature as requested by management.

• Acting as part of the senior line management team as required by the local Business Manager.

• Other duties related to the success of the ALS Arabia Minerals as directed by the Minerals Manager.

The Technical Manager has the following quality responsibilities:

• Ensuring that the quality of analytical data produced is maintained at a level that meets or exceeds company and market acceptable standards

• Ensuring laboratory equipment is of the standard required to meet or exceed divisional QC targets.

• Assessing the results of QA/QC audits and implement improvements as required.

• Acting as executive manager of the Quality Group

The Technical Manager has the following safety responsibilities:

• To be familiar with the safety requirements as set out in the safety manual.

• To provide the necessary equipment and environment to ensure safety in the laboratory.

• To rectify any unsafe laboratory practice.

• Ensuring that the quality of analytical data produced is maintained at a level that meets or exceeds company and market acceptable standards
