SENIOR DRILL & BLAST PLANNING ENGINEER 
Type of position:

Initial Term – 3 to 6 Months

General Description:


Position delivers technical support to the Production Drill and Blast Department. As the Senior Drill and Blast Engineer you will be responsible for all Technical Services Drill and Blast functions. Reporting to the Managing Director , the role will provide support including reporting, rosters, drill and blast plans and schedules. You will ensure these functions are done in a timely, professional and safe manner.

Role responsibilities include:

-Provide mentoring and guidance to Drill and Blast Planning Engineers.

-Perform accurate design duties on time for all drill and blast activities at our company project operations.

-To maintain and improve safe work practices.

-Undertake ‘Drill and Blast’ related project studies and investigations.

-Maintain and enhance contractor relationships.

Required

-Provide drill and blast engineering services including blast hole pattern design and ‘tie-in’/charge design.

-In consultation with planning personnel, prepare blast master for all mining areas 3 months in advance.

-Liaise with the Short Term Planning Engineer and Production Superintendent to efficiently schedule the drilling and blasting requirements and minimise interruption of other mining operations.

-Liaise with the Drill and Blast Superintendent to ensure drilling and blasting operations are carried out in a cost effective manner.

-Liaise with the Drill and blast Superintendent to develop and implement procedures that optimise the drill and blast process.

-Resolve drill and blast technical problems.

-Prepare, monitor and update production data associated with drilling and blasting activities. Review Q/A data, digging sheets and blast videos to determine areas of further improvement.

-Liaise with consultant and specialist suppliers as required.

-Inspect drill and blast areas periodically.

-Consult and develop a close working relationship with the Geotechnical Engineer in order to optimise pit wall stability.

-Provide specialist reports on particular facets of the drill and blast operation.

-Development of detailed safe work procedures.

-Participate in safety investigations when required.

-Ensure compliance with relevant statutory requirements and legislation.

-Commit to ‘Health and Safety’ and encourage others by leading by example.

-Actively report hazards and incidents.

-Promote safety within the mine planning department.

-Act in a safe manner.

-Abide by all site specific rules and procedures including camp rules, drug and alcohol standards, computer use rules, evacuation procedures, vehicle pre starts, incident/accident reporting etc.

-Communicate openly and effectively.

-Participate in work based team activities.

-Attend and contribute at constructive and effective planning and production meetings.

-Communicate regularly with other mining departments.

-Create a climate of mutual trust between all departments.

-Actively seek opportunities to improve overall performance and create win-win situations for all site personnel.

-Promote a friendly professional working relationship between ABW and other companies on site.
