Job Summary
Serves as a fully capable professional under the direct supervision of Senior Associate or Associate Director. The Associate leads an architectural design team (circa 5 staff) and plans, (including budget + resources) schedules, organizes, coordinates and executes the design work on projects of all scales with regular interaction with an Associate Director or designated senior team member.
Job Duties:

  • Project/Design Responsibilities

  • Organises own and others work to achieve set deadlines

  • Responsible for the completeness & accuracy of own work. Responsible for the correctness, accuracy and complete multi-disciplinary coordination of the design documentation prepared by the assigned team

  • Prepares and/or reviews BIM models and drawings and co-ordinates using Navisworks and other coordination software

  • Adopts creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documentation to support these solutions

  • Develops specific, standardized procedures to achieve project requirements and deadlines

  • Proactively checks and coordinates project documents (including but not limited to multi-disciplinary drawings, design reports, technical specifications, etc.) and ensure they meet Client requirements and Industry Standards

  • Manages accuracy and quality of discipline BIM model information, presentation, and coordination

  • Takes accountability for own and subordinates work

  • Collaborates/communicates with other disciplines regarding coordination issues and common design tasks

  • Regularly reviews and checks team deliverables for accuracy, efficiency and thoroughness ensuring delivery is as per Client requirements and Industry standards

  • Manages Team and other disciplines regarding coordination issues and common design & BIM model development tasks

  • Communicates with clarity, purpose and accuracy

  • Determines solutions, methods and procedures on assignments to deliver products & services

  • Provides guidance to junior staff

  • Prepares designs, sketches, diagrams, reviews and edits specifications

  • Manages coordination of design using Navisworks and other coordination software

  • Participates in pro-active coordination with internal and external design disciplines to achieve a high-quality consistent set of presentation or design documents as per Client requirements and Industry standards

  • Manages the preparation and compilation of design presentations and reports

  • Leads team meetings and brings ideas and solutions to the table

  • Developed knowledge of AECOM's QMS procedures

  • Plans for and applies Safety in Design principles throughout all design stages of a project

  • Manages preparation of and checks material schedules and sample boards

  • Manages preparation of discipline drawings for submission to the Statutory Authorities.

  • Attends / Leads client meetings

  • Confidently present work to colleagues, clients and stakeholders.

  • Provide technical support to site supervision teams and resolve design related issues on site

  • Coordinate and develop responses to 3rd Party review comments, tender queries, contractor's queries, etc.

  • Responsible for making technical decisions regarding resolution of clashes between disciplines

  • Contribute, from the onset of a project, to the design of innovative and progressive design solutions that reconcile client's goals and priorities while fostering opportunities for design excellence

  • To perform and/or direct material and building system research and participate in the co-ordination and preparation of relevant specifications

  • Efficiency in Design

  • Apply and reinforce standard designs and products across work programmes

  • Rigorously challenge the teams to drive efficiency in our design programmes

  • Coordinate efficient outsourcing / offshoring (GDC etc.) of workload

  • Managerial Responsibilities

  • Planning and monitoring others work to achieve set deadlines

  • Mentoring junior team members

  • Coordinates and lead the assigned team of Architects and Technicians on a day to day basis and ensure that design excellence is achieved throughout

  • Leads design work on projects of medium to large scales ensuring project objectives are met, design instructions are implemented and delivery is achieved within the set time and budget fee

  • Leads design team meetings to ensure all team members are participating and providing feedback. Motivates them and facilitates them to bring ideas and solutions to the table

  • Manages architectural resource planning for the project and reporting project needs to senior team members

  • Routinely interacts with clients, contractors, local authority representatives and others using skills of persuasion and negotiation to resolve critical issues

  • Promotes teamwork within architectural and multi-disciplinary teams (including the GDC), maintaining positive moral and instilling a creative culture within the team

  • Manage interface between design team / site supervision team ensuring proper design support is provided in a timely manner

  • Support junior staff in activities to develop their technical excellence

  • Ensures the quality of technical work produced by team meets Client requirements and Industry standards

  • Ensures, directly and through subordinates, that projects are completed on time and meet all requirements of the Design Brief

  • Make appropriate value judgements with respect to strategic work that supports the design concept and performance goals of the project

  • Take initiatives to develop design manuals, standard design documents, presentations, etc. to increase efficiencies, knowledge and awareness across the architectural practice

  • Commercial Responsibilities

  • Understands and implements project management principles and able to work within project budgets which includes fees and designing to construction budget

  • General

  • Delegates effectively and efficiently where appropriate and follows up on delegated tasks up to completion of the task(s)

  • Keeps abreast of the latest software/ techniques to increase productivity while sharing knowledge with colleagues

Minimum Requirements
Specific Skills Required :
Project/Design Responsibilities

  • Ability to fulfil all the above duties and responsibilities

  • Excellent technical knowledge of practice line discipline

  • Proficient architectural design skills and understanding of the design process and interfaces between design disciplines

  • A good awareness of Autodesk Revit, proficiency in Autodesk BIM 360 Glue, Navisworks, presentation software and managing projects in a BIM environment

  • Manages BIM content based on BIM modelling standards and as outlined in BEP

  • Awareness of Industry BIM standards, processes and general approaches

  • Manages BIM model QA/QC checks on projects according to established and company standards to ensure accuracy and quality of discipline models

  • Ability to extract, manipulate, validate and present BIM model information as required e.g. at client meetings / presentations

  • Excellent Architectural design skills complimented by good hand sketching skills. Able to sketch something quickly in order to show ideas and concepts

  • Excellent understanding of space planning and functional adjacencies

  • Developed skills in the use a variety of software / media in the development, presentation and documentation design

  • Proficient at researching materials and learning about properties & potential applications as well as installation / construction sequence requirements so they can be integrated into the design and information can be noted in depth on the drawings and specifications

  • Capable of reviewing and editing a set of quality specifications

  • Full understanding of Safety in Design requirements and able to develop the principals with the design team

  • Developed presentation skills (drawn, written & verbal)

  • Proficiency in Sketch-up and/or other 3D tools

  • Manage shop drawings and samples to ensure drawings and materials match AECOM designs & specifications

General Skills:

  • Flexibility of attitude towards company objectives

  • Extensive project experience and understanding of the design process and interfaces between design disciplines

  • Must be detail-oriented, consistent and highly accurate in the work

  • Must be a team player, have a positive attitude, and be a self-starter

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Ability and motivated to update skills and expertise through continuing professional development (CPD) initiatives

  • Detailed knowledge of AECOM's standards, policies, codes and procedures and ability to transmit the same to others

  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken). Knowledge of other languages is an added value

  • Full knowledge of Statutory Authorities requirements, knowledge of local & international codes, regulations and submission requirements

  • Full knowledge of Fire & Life Safety principles

  • Full knowledge of Sustainable Design principles

  • Advance knowledge in MS Project and other Design Planning & Management tools

Managerial Skills:

  • Ability and will to mentor and provide support to junior staff members and spread knowledge across the wider architectural community within AECOM's Middle East offices

  • Demonstrates a highly organized and systematic approach to producing a project. Understands the necessity to keep team and project tasks lists updated and complete

  • Excellent Time Management skills and constantly seeks to streamline processes and procedures to increase quality and efficiency

  • Developed leadership skills

  • Builds positive long term relationships at a working level with internal & external clients

  • Developed understanding of scope definition and scope interface and ability to transmit the same to others


  • Previous Museum Experience

  • Minimum 12 years post undergraduate experience

  • Proven related professional experience in an Architectural Practice

  • Experience of working on

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.Arch. or B.Sc. in Architecture

  • Postgraduate in Architecture or Urban Design

  • International Accreditation (RIBA, AIA or equivalent)

  • Sustainability Certification (LEED, PQP or equivalent)
