Job Description


A Commis 1 (Pastry) is responsible for preparing and presenting high quality dishes to deliver an excellent Guest experience.
What will I be doing
As a Commis 1(Pastry) you will be assisting in the daily pastry operations, including the preparation of mis-en-place and production. Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:
  • Knowledge of the individual pastry menu items including basic ingredients, methods of preparation, and presentation style.
  • Maintain kitchen hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Gain basic knowledge of all outlets in hotel.
  • Responsible for mise en place.
  • Taste and examine food prepared for freshness and required quality.
  • Set up section as required by Chef De Partie and Pastry Chef.
  • Be responsible for minimising food wastage.
  • Attend and comprehend all information discussed at the briefing sessions.
  • Be pro-actively involved in the hotel's operation keeping up-to-date with events within the hotel.

  • Previous experience as a Commis Chef within the pasty kitchen.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Proven ability to work with a team and to follow instruction.
  • A passion to learn and a drive to succeed in a culinary/hospitality career.
  • Proof of completion in a basic food hygiene course.
  • A passion for food and the culinary arts.
  • Completion of an accredited commercial cookery course or trade apprenticeship within the Pastry section.
  • Experience multi-tasking and working in an environment with rigorous standards.
  • Educational background in Culinary Arts
  • Previous work experience within the hotel industry
  • NVQ Level 2
