Job Description
Objective: The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is the provost and academic director of the university being a member of the Executive Council and reports directly to the vice chancellor. The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is responsible for the strategic leadership in planning and quality, teaching and learning, faculty, and external lecturers in foundation programs, general education, high schools, assistantship program, as well as continuing education. As an academic leader, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is responsible for developing a culture of performance that promotes excellence in teaching and programs and response to opportunities to learn modern technologies in education. Being a member of the university senior management team, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs shares the responsibility for strategic and operational planning, implementation and evaluation at the university level. General Duties *Follow up the implementation of strategic plans and university policies within the concerned sector *Participate in developing strategic plans and formulating general policies for the university *Participate in developing action plans and major programs and overseeing their implementation after approval *Coordinate, supervise and organize work between departments and the concerned sector *Suggest any policies for the concerned sector *Issue the necessary internal instructions that include the proper progress of work within the concerned sector *Participate as a chair or a member in the committees formed by decrees of the Chancellor or Vice Chancellor Specialized Duties *Supervise the strategic goals of the university in the basic academic fields, which cover the pre-university preparation programs, general education, UAE citizen assistantships program, and continuing education *Ensure that academic policies effectively support the university goals and, where appropriate, recommend a change in academic policies and programs to the Council of Academic Affairs *Oversee the development of academic curricula, and work through the deans to ensure that the current academic programs in the university preparing graduates efficiently to meet the needs of the UAE government and private employers effectively *Lead the development of opportunities presented by emerging learning technologies that will lead to improvements in teaching and learning *Lead improvements in academic quality by ensuring stringent processes are in place for all academic activities, developing policies and recruitment procedures for faculty members, reviewing and continually reinforcing performance, promotion policies and procedures, to raise the level of teaching and learning *Enhance communication with other universities and develop partnerships with local and international institutions that support the university's mission and enrich students experience *Work with the Deputy Vice Chancellor (for Student Affairs and Admissions) to develop online learning programs and other activities that enriches the student experience and enhances the university education *Prepare annual budget for the sector, in line with the strategic plan of the university, and manage resources more effectively to support the strategic academic goals of the university *Contribute influentially to the work of the university's executive management, and to the university's broader interests *Accomplish any other duties assigned to him by the Vice Chancellor of the University *The University Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is an ex officio member of the Executive Council and the Council of Academic Affairs and University Development Committee
Minimum Qualification
*A PhD from an internationally recognized research university, and a proven track record of academic productivity *Minimum 6 years experience *At least three years of senior university leadership experience *Experience in the effective management of large numbers of employees and complex budgets *Experience in leadership in strategic planning, budgeting, financial management, change management, academic collaboration, and academic administration
