The Strategy team is at the center of thinking and planning Careem's vision and strategy, at both the group- as well as platform-level, with the objective of successfully achieving the company's ambitious growth targets and building competitive advantage for it. As the Strategy Director, you will be responsible for shaping the corporate strategy of Careem as it evolves from a Ride hailing player to an everyday Super App of the region. It will be part of the team's mandate to lay down a clear path for Careem's Super App vision and strategy and make the transition smooth for current business lines as well as for colleagues. In order to be able to draft an effective and competitive strategy, you will need to engage in many market/industry studies, voice of customer research, benchmarking / baselining exercises and other methods of primary and secondary data collection. You will also need to engage in many interviews and insights collection from our C4 stakeholders (colleagues, customers, captains and communities).
The role of Strategy Director is a very important role in Careem.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Drive Careem's Super App strategy, go-to-market plan, business / monetization models to become ‘THE app of the region
  • Conduct necessary research to generate insights about how our SuperApp can be scaled fast to achieve our Vision 2022
  • Work with various stakeholders to identify how different verticals can be integrated together and within the platform org especially explore various use cases to strengthen our Super App value prop and realize synergies among ride hailing, food delivery and logistics services
  • Drive regional strategy for Careem by understanding the macro realities of markets and business lines. This includes, but not limited to, scouting for ideas outside Careem
  • Create business cases and financial models to launch new business lines supported by data and analytics
  • Develop short- and long-term strategic plans in line with our Super App vision while ensuring different business lines have Careem's local maxima prioritized
  • Work on identifying new potential markets / segments / use-cases and devise the entry strategy for new verticals, incl sizing and prioritization of opportunities
  • Define organizational priorities on an annual and quarterly basis, at the group-level
  • Develop market focused strategies to support the operational teams on the ground
  • Support business teams in planning and analysis of high impact initiatives, e.g. provide fact- based support to key challenges, help with problem identification and structuring, advise on the realities of strategy implementation and org / operating model change topics around it
  • Work with the company's senior leadership and C-Suite on a daily basis
  • Develop needful analytical and conceptual frameworks for strategy formulation
  • Conduct market research, competitive analysis and industry benchmarking needed for strategy articulation and assessment

This role will be accountable for the following:
  • Accountability for overall growth and profitability (shared KPI with other functions)
  • Delivery of an annual corporate strategy along with strategic plans and implementation roadmaps
  • Delivery of quarterly priorities
  • Delivery of key org change initiatives
  • Delivery of quality, timely support to senior leadership on sensitive, priority, strategic topics
  • Updating the company's vision and group-level priorities, in alignment with the Uber family

Additional qualifications include:
  • Relevant Master's education background, especially MBA, Strategy, Management, Economics, Finance or Computer Science / Engineering from a top-tier academic institution
  • 5+ years of experience in professional environments, especially working with the strategy arm of a leading tech company and/or a top tier management consulting firm
  • A passion for and demonstrated experience working with technology companies including internet, super app, and marketplace focused companies
  • Comfortable with continuous engagement with C-level and Senior Leadership
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (both verbal and written) - comfortable with PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong team-play, comfortable with cross-team collaboration
  • Prior CX (Customer Experience) and Strategic Planning experience is a big plus
  • Prior experience in a senior position in a super app company or relevant adjacencies is a plus
