Insurance investment is a fast growing part of this institutional asset pool and the successful candidate will be a key member of the Insurance Investment Strategy Team.
The Mercer Insurance Strategy Investment team supports Mercer's Advisory and Delegated Solutions business in servicing insurance clients. The goal is for Mercer to assist insurers in developing strategic solutions and providing advice to insurers using our own technical expertise. Our objective is to help our clients develop an investment strategy with which they can manage their asset and liability mix. Mercer also aims to manufacture, integrate, and distribute our own products and solutions to help our clients grow their business.
As part of the Insurance Investment Strategy Group, you will have the opportunity to work within Mercer's Investment Strategy team to help solve some of the unique investment challenges that insurers face from an asset allocation perspective, including generating real return within a low yield environment and investing in a time of climate change all within a given regulatory regime. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing investment strategies tailored to each insurers individual needs using Mercer's best ideas.
As an Analyst within the Insurance Investment Strategy Group, you will support the delivery of strategic investment advice to global insurers. You will work with team members on client deliverables, provide input to business development activities and contribute to the solutions design process for insurers.
This role requires a unique blend of capabilities, including client-facing consulting, investment analysis and reporting, quantitative modelling, and research for a wide range of insurance clients and prospects. You will also have the opportunity to work on different insurance solution development projects under the guidance of supportive senior team members.

We will rely on you to:
  • Supporting the wider insurance team and acting as the insurance strategy specialist for clients/prospects
  • Ensure excellent client service through accurate and timely reporting, record keeping and market intelligence acting as a primary contact point for technical queries
  • Develop/maintain a deep understanding of client needs/requirements and the insurance regulatory environment
  • Developing Strategic Asset Allocations for insurance clients including both quantitative and qualitative evaluations of asset allocation strategies
  • Make preliminary recommendations to consultants on appropriate investment strategies and structures for insurers, engaging with specialist teams where appropriate
  • Prepare for and attend client meetings, presenting technical analysis, key issues and conclusions for clients
  • Maintain and check technical accuracy, reasonableness of own work and others
  • Provide input to team development & strategy

What you need to have:
  • Investment industry experience (3+ years) with the motivation to learn and succeed in a strategy orientated role
  • High proficiency in Excel/ Microsoft Office applications - with modelling experience an advantage
  • Strong numerical reasoning, analytical skills and ability to work through tasks in a logical manner
  • Experience in the institutional investment landscape and strategy setting process
  • Interest in the underlying economic, investment and regulatory issues that determine insurers decision making
  • Have a keen eye for detail and intellectually ambitious with high standards of output
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, manage multiple priorities while working in a rapidly changing environment
