ABOUT THE ROLEThe Head of Technical is responsible for the development and implementation of Offshore wide technical policies and marine engineering standards, as necessary to drive superior levels of vessel performance across all Offshore business units.
Establishing minimum technical operating standards and providing direction, advice, and support to all Technical Managers in the promotion of best practices across the P&O Maritime Logistics (POML) Offshore business units.
To improve onboard technical and engineering management and where practical standardise processes across POML.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESPrimary Focus Areas- Recommending the establishment, or amendment of maintenance and repair policies and procedures determined to deliver first class operational performance and vessel availability as well as to ensure that the value of company assets are maintained at all times.
- Responsible for establishing technical key performance indicators (KPI) and for monitoring and auditing the technical performance of each Offshore business unit.
- Developing a technical inspection and audit program to ensure that proper governance is being exercised by the regional teams in safe and reliable ship operations.
- Responsible for advising the Executive Management on all matters relating to the technical operation and maintenance of the P&O Maritime Logistics world-wide Offshore fleet.
- Provide management and leadership to members of the technical management teams and to undertake mentoring and training within the P&O Maritime Logistics Offshore business units as required in support of the above objectives
Leadership- Provide guidance, support and coaching to Technical Managers within P&O Maritime Logistics Offshore on marine engineering and technical matters.
- Establish planning tools and processes, for business units to assess and improve performance across the Offshore fleet
- Build the capability within the Offshore Division to increasingly take ownership and accountability for all technical and engineering matters within the fleet
- Promote an environment of shared vision and co-operation for continual improvement of team performance.
- In conjunction with Head of Business Units, develop performance development plans for Technical Managers to set performance direction and identify training and development needs for shore and sea going technical personnel.
- Regularly meet with the technical teams, including on-board engineering crew, to build a relationship based on mutual respect for skills and knowledge.
Technical Operations - Provide Strategic Operational Leadership.
- Plan and direct the organization activities to achieve stated / agreed targets and standards for finance and operational performance, quality, culture and legislative compliance.
- Acquire and develop talent.
- Maintain & develop organizational culture, values and reputation.
- Report to Director Offshore on organizational plans and performance.
- Prepare and deliver against business plans in line with group guidelines.
- Manage management reporting and management controls for Technical Offshore.
- Ensure the common understanding and use of the best operational and technical systems and practices and reporting throughout the Group in order to maximize the fleet utilization
- Overview of dry-dockings and ensure the quality of the job and that the vessels are delivered back as planned and in a timely, cost-effective manner and with expected quality.
Budget, cost review and analysis- Prepare and submit comprehensive annual budgets for the corporate technical team.
- Review OPEX and CAPEX budgets submitted by the BUs.
- Monitor Offshore wide operating expenditures with specific focus on repair and maintenance costs with a view to seeking a efficiency in technical operational and consumable costs.
- Reviewing and challenging repair & maintenance budgets prepared by Business Units technical management and recommending revision or approval to the management executive as appropriate.
Reporting- Produce accurate, concise and comprehensive reports in a timely manner to keep the management up to date on the technical performance
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCEMinimum Qualifications: - Chief Engineer of background, Class I Certificate of Competency or Post Graduate Qualification in Management Discipline
- Postgraduate
Minimum Experience: - Minimum 10 years experience in technical operational role out of which 5 years to be in a similar position
Job-Specific Skills: - Good technical and operational knowledge of offshore support vessels
- Experience in subsea sector is an advantage.
