Serves as a fully capable professional who leads a design team and is responsible for the management of large-scale projects. The Senior Associate contributes to the development of the company by supporting the senior management team in the progressive evolution of AECOM’s design philosophy, research activities and technical development. The engineering role shall be focused on specialist Electrical Systems for Buildings.

Job Duties:

  • Serves as a fully capable professional within the Electrical / ELV discipline

  • Ensures, directly and through subordinates, that projects are completed on time and meet all requirements of the Design Brief

  • Responsible for the correctness, accuracy and complete multi-disciplinary coordination of the design documentation prepared by the assigned team

  • Ensures the quality of technical work produced by team meets AECOM’s Technical Excellence standards

  • Responsible for Electrical / ELV resource planning for the project and reporting project needs to senior team members

  • Applies advanced knowledge to develop design procedures and tools to facilitate the completion of high quality, cost effective projects

  • Routinely interacts with clients, contractors, local authority representatives and others using skills of persuasion and negotiation to resolve critical issues

  • Responsible for key design input at early design phases and for general design leadership during the course of the project

  • Promotes teamwork within a multi-disciplinary team (including the GDC), maintaining positive moral and instilling a creative culture within the practice

  • Understands and implements project management principles and able to work within project budgets which includes fees and designing to budget

  • Contribute, from the onset of a project, to the design of innovative and progressive design solutions that reconcile client’s goals and priorities while fostering opportunities for design excellence

  • Make appropriate value judgements with respect to corrective work that supports the design concept and performance goals of the project

  • To perform and/or direct material and building system research and participate in the co-ordination and preparation of project specifications

  • Assists with steering and influencing the engineering design philosophy and approach of the company through support of the Associate Directors and Directors

  • Manage interface between Design Team / Site Team ensuring proper design support is provided in a timely manner

  • Ensuring Safety in Design principles are applied throughout all design stages of a project

  • Contribute to preparation of bids

  • Support Directors with operational responsibilities which includes development and implementing Technical Excellence initiatives, management of resources (HR), training initiatives (CPD)

  • Participate in marketing and business development

  • Support and develop junior staff through guidance, mentoring and leadership of their development

  • Take initiatives to develop design manuals, standard design documents, presentations, etc. to increase efficiencies, knowledge and awareness across the architectural practice

  • Proactively seeks knowledge of the latest software / techniques to increase productivity while developing training initiatives for colleagues

Specific Skills Required:

  • Ability to fulfill all the above duties and responsibilities

  • Outstanding Electrical and / or ELV design skills

  • Comprehensive project experience

  • Outstanding leadership skills

  • Outstanding communication skills

  • Demonstrates a highly organized and systematic approach to MEP Services design. Understands the necessity to keep team and project tasks lists updated and complete

  • Demonstrates a high degree of Time Management skill and constantly seeks to streamline processes and procedures to increase quality and efficiency

  • Flexibility and attitude towards company objectives

  • Builds positive long term relationships at a working level with clients

  • Full understanding of AECOM’s commercial management of projects and instils the importance of financial health and profitability

  • Full understanding of risk management and ability to communicate the same to others

  • Full understanding of Safety in Design requirements and able to develop the principals with the design team

  • Drives innovation and design excellence

  • Full understanding of scope definition and scope interface and ability to transmit the same to others

  • Outstanding presentation skills

  • Instils a culture of personal responsibility for adherence to and improvement of AECOM’s standards, policies, codes and procedures

  • Full knowledge of Statutory Authorities requirements, knowledge of codes, regulations and submission requirements

  • Developed knowledge of Fire & Life Safety principles

  • A good awareness of Autodesk Revit and managing projects in a BIM environment

  • Ability and will to mentor and provide support to junior staff members and spread knowledge across the wider architectural community within AECOM’s Middle East offices

  • Ability and motivated to update skills and expertise through continuing professional development (CPD) initiatives

  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken). Knowledge of other languages is an added value.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years post undergraduate education

  • Proven related professional experience in a Design Management or Multi-disciplinary Design Practice

  • Experience of working on large scale projects

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Design Management or Bachelor of Science in a relevant design discipline
