The Senior Consultant in the Antitrust practice leads economic research and analysis for antitrust and competition cases, performs applied economic research for government and business clients, and manages teams of junior staff to work on government regulatory reviews of mergers and acquisitions, litigation casework, and advisory projects related to quantitative economic, econometric, statistical and financial analysis across different industries and markets. Specific duties include: Setting up and organizing the general work structure on government regulatory reviews of mergers, acquisitions and other competition and antitrust projects, including the design of the quantitative research and developing the statistical and mathematical framework to perform the econometric and economic analysis of these antitrust projects. Applying knowledge of econometrics, statistics, microeconomics and industrial organization to perform complex economic research and analysis of business, industry, and market conditions such as competition analysis. Conducting econometric and statistical analysis of complex competition and antitrust litigation cases, including economic valuations of damages induced by anticompetitive behavior of market players and analytical studies of the competitive environment in a large variety of industries. Estimating large-scale economic models using advanced statistical software, either SAS, Stata or Python. Performing extensive quantitative analyses to test and evaluate the competitive performance of industries. Effectively managing competition and antitrust projects from initiation, through planning, execution and close. Planning, directing and supervising the work performed by junior staff, and coordinating communication with clients and third-party data providers on collecting information necessary for the implementation of the research design. Preparing reports with research findings, including expert reports and presentations, and presenting findings to NERA's managing directors, clients, and regulatory agencies. Participating in business development efforts and client management. Position has no direct reports, but does directly supervise staff on a project by project basis. The number of employees staffed on a project, and supervised by this position, varies on a project by project basis from approximately 1-5. The following are the levels/titles of employees that this position could supervise on a project by project basis - Intern, Research Associate, Associate Analyst, Analyst, Senior Analyst, Consultant.
What you need to have:
Must have a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or a related field plus five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the position offered or as a Manager, Senior Economist, Economist, or a related position. Must have five (5) years of experience with all of the following: Managing competition/antitrust cases or significant workstreams thereof, including mergers or acquisitions Applying economics and econometrics to design the quantitative research for antitrust/competition cases this includes the design of quantitative strategies to analyze the impact of changes in either market structure or firm conduct on market performance Developing advanced econometric models for application in competition/antitrust cases, including models based on cross-sectional and time-series data estimating these models using advanced statistical software, either SAS, STATA or Python Planning, supervising and directing the economic research and analysis performed by junior staff on competition/antitrust projects, including junior staff's use of advanced statistical software, either SAS, STATA or Python Determining the data necessary for the implementation of the economic and econometric analysis in competition/antitrust projects and coordinating communication with clients on collecting these data Applying economic tools and screens commonly used in the regulatory review of mergers and acquisitions such as critical loss, upward pricing pressure, diversion ratios, vertical arithmetic and market shares and measures of market concentration Writing complex research findings and arguments related to the economic and econometric assessment in competition/antitrust cases for audiences that include project directors, clients, regulatory agencies and/or courts. In the alternative, employer will accept a Ph.D. degree or foreign equivalent in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or a related field plus two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the position offered or as a Manager, Senior Economist, Economist, or a related position, as well as two (2) years of experience in all of the above-mentioned skills. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training or experience.
