We are looking for a Senior Director to lead our org practice within the People function. You will play a critical role in leading cultural transformations linked to our strategy. Topics you should feel comfortable leading on will include operating model design (from structure through to ways of working), complex change management projects related to org and people topics, process and system design and implementation, and org wide culture programs. These are C level initiatives requiring extensive work with the senior executive team and cross-functionally with functions ranging from engineering to operations.
About the team: You will lead a small agile team driven to have an outd impact by working collaboratively with the whole organization. We know people are what it takes to fulfil a mission and deliver a strategy. We focus on enabling people working at Careem to deliver the best work of their lives. For the team, the organisation is the product, and the business and our colleagues are our end users. This means we apply a product management approach to design, test, iterate and deploy solutions to problems and challenges within Careem.
What will be keeping you busy
This is a high impact role, leading a team of strategic problem solvers who are charged with running cross functional projects which will align our ways of working, values and systems with our unique culture and remote first ways of working. You'll need to work with the CEO and leadership team to craft a culture strategy to support the overall company strategy. Within our People function, this role leads the organization practice that complements our engagement (business) partners and other Centers of Excellence.
Working with our exec team you will establish strategic initiatives on an annual basis that will facilitate our vision. This could range from reviewing the way the organisation is designed, setting our remote first proposition up for success, aligning our operating system and our values to ‘post-covid normal, working with specific teams to unlock potential or deep diving on core colleague experience and related processes.
Working with our Centers of Excellence and our People Engagement partners, it will be critical that you apply robust project management frameworks and skills to implement systems and processes across the wider organisation. We also expect you to use a product management mindset you will track and monitor success and identify opportunities for continuous experimentation and iteration.
As a people manager, you will need to assign the right people to the right workstreams and support them to work closely with our business leaders to design and then implement change programs which will mobilise the organisation to engage and behave in concert to realise our cultural aspirations. You will adopt a servant leadership approach to enabling your team to work autonomously, and with their respective business counterparts to ensure teams at Careem have the right people and org frameworks to be successful.
What you'll need
This role demands a real passion for the customer, in this case, Careem colleagues. The role requires principled problem solving, compelling storytelling skills, creativity and the mindset of starting with the customer first and working backwards.
  • You're an engaging leader with outstanding relationship-building and influencing skills, able to quickly establish trust and credibility with people in the organization ranging from junior colleagues to the C suite
  • You are a problem solver and can easily apply critical thinking to complex topics - breaking them down and identifying solutions
  • You have a 'driver' personality - constantly pushing toward clarity and impactful delivery while balancing the need for effective collaboration and trusted relationships
  • You're able to guide and steer Sr Managers and Directors as they craft stories with data using analysis and interpretation of datasets to create easy to understand and compelling narratives to support decision making
  • You have a proven ability of cultivating deep customer empathy and articulating customer problems
  • You are adaptable, resilient, flexible, and bring a mindset of constant improvement and transparency to your work and when leading others cross-functionally
  • You are flexible and work within changing priorities with enthusiasm and creativity
  • You have extremely strong written and verbal interpersonal skills and are known for being able to build constructive working relationships with almost anyone
  • You have high standards across the board - from your work product to the way you lead and engage with others
  • You are able to flex between getting very deep into the details (no task is too small for you) - to presenting and defending findings to our C-suite
  • You use a coaching approach to your team knowing that frequent and transparent conversations are a massive lever for individual and team performance

Requirement Summary:
  • Bachelor degree Masters /MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in a strategic or change heavy role with proven success at driving change projects through a recognised framework/methodology
  • Minimum 5-7 years experience leading others either as direct reports or cross-functionally
  • Management consulting experience particularly at the Principal level and above preferred but not required. Relevant experience in HR Management, Organizational Psychology also accepted.
  • High levels of resourcefulness, influence/organizational savvy, execution skills (strategy through implementation) as well as executive presence/impact
  • Proven success driving change projects preferably at a scale of several hundred people
  • Strong business acumen and ability to work well across different functions in order to integrate People and business strategies
  • Experience working with global teams, preferably distributed in different locations
