Job Summary
Our Building Engineering practice has an opening for an experienced Senior Project Manager.
The successful candidate would undertake a full day to day PM role on more complex projects or on a range of smaller but more challenging projects or running a significant component of a major project from inception to completion. Undertakes full responsibility for project delivery and integrates elements of project management through the project life cycle. Identifies and exploits opportunities as they arise throughout the project life cycle. Manages the contract and proactively addresses changes. Builds and develops Client relationships - seeks opportunities for repeat business / new opportunities. Receives positive Client feedback. Act as a mentor / leader for more junior staff. Competent with all relevant AECOM systems and processes. Able to undertake a range of business development activities including leading preparation of proposals / attending interviews and presentations / networking events etc.

Job Duties:
Project Responsibilities:

  • Organise own and others work to achieve set deadlines

  • Ensures the delivery and completeness of the project deliverables by assigned teams

  • Find solutions with team members to achieve deadlines and meet programme

  • Work with Senior management to develop specific, standardized procedures to achieve practice requirements and deadlines

  • Participate in scheduled reviews to check project status.

  • Take accountability for own and subordinates work

  • Collaborate/communicate with AECOM Senior Management, Clients, Contractors and others using skills of persuasion and negotiation to resolve critical issues

  • Communicate with clarity, purpose and accuracy

  • Advise Building engineering teams of any changes in project delivery timelines

  • Use their experience to assist with the resolution of any key constructability issues

  • Routinely interacts with clients and contractors representatives and others using skills of persuasion and negotiation to resolve critical issues

  • Prepare and present scheduled fortnightly project reviews of internal and external costs to date, earned value and estimates to completion

  • Report on any findings of mis-conduct by staff members

  • Maintain day to day contact with Assistant Project Managers

  • Develop knowledge of AECOM's PDS procedures

  • Understand the time frame required for AECOM's QMS system.

  • Attend Client and Design Meetings on a regular basis

  • Check Safety in Design exercise has been carried out on projects

  • Prepare presentations for Clients, senior management

  • Check design and construction programmes for accuracy and interdependency of predecessors on new activities

  • Confidently present work to colleagues, clients and stakeholders.

  • Ensure that projects are completed on time and meet all requirements of the Design Brief

  • Undertake a range of business development activities including leading preparation of proposals / attending interviews and presentations / networking events etc.

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Plans and monitors others work to achieve set deadlines

  • Supports and develops junior staff through guidance, mentoring and leadership of their development

  • Oversees Assistant Project Manages and Project Controls staff to ensure that MAP training and PDS are consistently applied across a portfolio of projects

  • Approves travel, expenses and invoicing related to their projects

  • Ensures project objectives are met, design instructions/changes are implemented and delivery is achieved within the set time and budget fee

  • Prepares and presents Healthy Starts and Technical Delivery/Project Execution Plans for each of their projects at commencement

  • Action Client Satisfaction surveys

  • Provides guidance to junior staff and support junior staff in activities to develop their technical excellence

  • Ensures own and team weekly timesheets are completed

  • Promotes teamwork within a multi-disciplinary team (including the GDC), maintaining positive moral and instilling a creative culture within the practice

  • Participates in scheduled reviews to check project deliverables for accuracy, efficiency and thoroughness ensuring delivery is as per Client requirements and Industry standards

  • Makes appropriate value judgements with respect to strategic work that supports the performance goals of the practice

  • Assists the Project Directors/Approvers in initiatives to develop procedures, presentations, etc. to increase efficiencies, knowledge and awareness across the Building Engineering practice

  • Applies advanced knowledge to facilitate the completion of high quality, cost effective projects

Commercial Responsibilities:

  • Understands and implements project management principles and able to work within project budgets which includes fees and designs to construction budgets

  • Ensures the quality of technical and commercial bid documentation is correct and not contradictive.

  • Assists in initial assessment of potential new projects and competitions

  • Builds a network of professional relationships at project level with existing and prospective clients

  • Ensures commercially sensitive communication with Clients is reviewed and distributed to the commercial teams

  • Participates in scheduled reviews to check project status and ensure the project is financially healthy, on time and deliverables are being achieved.

  • Prepares new variations/change requests and ensure sign off by the Client and ensures updates are implemented on AECOM ePM/APIC systems

  • Ensures their project spends are released on a weekly basis and reviewed.

  • Reports on any findings of project slippage and financial overspend

  • Leads the preparation of major bids and proposals on the commercial and technical side

  • Actively participates in marketing and business development


  • Delegates effectively and efficiently where appropriate and follows up on delegated tasks up to completion of the task(s)

  • Ensures the latest software / techniques are utilised to increase productivity and training opportunities for staff are made available

Specific Skills Required:
Project Responsibilities:

  • Ability to fulfil all the above duties and responsibilities.

  • Completes Aecom Bid Model (ABM), Managing AECOM Projects (MAP), ePM/APIC training and have a working operational knowledge

  • Good knowledge of timeframes for the design process and construction activities and interdependencies of construction activities.

  • Ability to develop construction and design programmes, understand the dependency on activities and review programmes by others for their accuracy.

  • A good awareness of Autodesk BIM 360 Glue, Navisworks, presentation software and managing projects in a BIM environment

  • Develops skills in the use a variety of software / media and presentation tools

  • Understanding of Safety in Design requirements

  • Outstanding presentation skills (written and verbal)

  • In depth knowledge of and practical experience with a variety of PM market sectors and construction methods

Minimum Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management

  • Professional membership (MICE / MCIOB / MRICS)

  • International Accreditation (PMP, APM, CMI or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or Architecture

  • Specific Project Management training or qualifications would be an advantage
